So back in April I got a shiny brand new Kia Rio5. Yesterday, the infamous check engine light reared its ugly head. I called the dealership as soon as I got home. No kidding but a guy named Bubba answered the phone. Told me to check the gas cap, if that didn’t do the trick I should bring it in. So I messed with the gas cap. No change. So this morning, I take it to the dealership.
The nice but tired looking service guy immediately asked, “Who told you to bring it in?” I, of course, replied “Bubba.” Another sigh. “OK, we’ll look at it. It should be sometime this afternoon.”
I figure what the heck, the thing is still under warranty, let them figure out. So I wait for the courtesy shuttle and get to work about half an hour late.
It gets better. About ten minutes after I get to work, the dealership calls. It’s Tired Service Guy. “Yep, it was the gas cap. It triggered the emission control warning. Next time just be sure to turn it three clicks.”
“So if the light comes on again. Any way I can just reset it?”
“Sure, just drive it about 100 miles and it’ll reset.”
“How will I know if it isn’t something else?
“The light won’t go off.”
Sigh.
