I’ve quietly been keeping my eye on Cold & Dark. A Swedish gritty horror Sci-Fi RPG. I mean how couldn’t I, remember Mutant Chronicles and Kult came from Sweden. (Yes, I know Mutant Chronicles and Kult were made by the people.)
Now the quick start is up on their site. And it looks pretty darned interesting. Pretty sure this one is going on the good only shopping list too. And since this just based on the quick start, I’m basically going to throw you the quick elevator pitch.
The Setting: You can see the influences here. Let’s see a little Firefly, Aliens, Event Horizon and maybe just a little smidgeon from the Babylon 5 universe with just a little tiny bit of a Lovecraftian and Cyberpunk undertones. That pretty much sums it up.
The Crunchy Bits: Looks to be a pretty easy system. It’s sort of like World of Darkness. You get a die pool based on an attribute score + your skill. In this case you roll d8′s rather than d10′s. There’s a set target number (7). Difficulty is adjusted adding or removing dice from the pool.
This is shaping up to be a really neat looking game. I can’t wait for it hit the shelves.
