It’s been a long time since the Gamer Category and the Politics Category crossed paths, but thanks to John McCain’s campaign staffer, Mike Goldfarb, it happens again.
Here’s the quote that’s got all the nerd fury flowing through my Mountain Dew infused blood, “It may be typical of the pro-Obama Dungeons & Dragons crowd to disparage a fellow countryman’s memory of war from the comfort of mom’s basement, but most Americans have the humility and gratitude to respect and learn from the memories of men who suffered on behalf of others.”
I’d like to remind the Senator’s campaign of some that “pro-Obama Dungeons and Dragons crowd” wasn’t in their mothers’ basement. They were in Iraq and still rolling the dice. During my own time in the Army, I met plenty more members of the D&D Crowd.
Gamers once again get stuck that stereotype. Perhaps, if Mr. Goldfarb would have said the “pro-Obama gansta crowd” or even the “pro-Obama tree hugging, dope smoking, draft dodging hippy crowd” then maybe besides a few bloggers would take notice. Let’s face it, I’ve lived through the sagas of D&D players worship Satan and shot up schools. It annoyed the hell out of me, just like this does.
I know this little quote has nothing to do with any issues facing the county but it really does once again show a complete disconnect with modern American Culture that is prevalent among our political heroes.
