That title ain’t about the player characters did but more of what I ended up doing during the session. The first problem is that we were down one player. Kind of tough when you have only three players to begin with. Second, there were a few plot points that were centered around that character. Hell, emergencies happen and there’s crap that’s more important than showing up for a game session. So we improvise and adapt.
When we last left out heroes, they were stranded on Harker Island (home to a haunted lighthouse, haunted asylum/prison and psychotic Winter Court Red Cap). Alex The Werewolf proclaims that he’ll swim for help. He changes into a wolf and jumps in. Leaving Artie the Apprentice Wizard and the mortal Dude to deal with the mess. Artie and the Dude head back to where the tour group should be. As they arrive, one of the tourists points at Artie and yells, “Holy shit, there’s the guy that killed the park ranger.” What follows is a mad chase around the island. Artie veils himself to look like another random park ranger. The player characters trying to heard and calm down the tour group. The Red Cap picking off lone tourists. And Artie wracking his brain trying to figure out how to beat a murder rap. Artie and the Dude finally corner and beat down the Red Cap. They “convince” him to go with their plan which was basically “The Scooby Do” plan. “No it was this guy who was the murder,” pull off mask “It was ‘Random Park Ranger”. Artie and the Dude end up with a couple of hours with the tour group to sell the story. Once the police arrive, they spend another couple hours getting questioned.
Once they manage to get back to shore, the party returns the Summer Court’s plant. Artie and the Dude then decided they need to find out what happened to Alex. One quick tracking spell later, they track Alex to a familiar seedy Russian bar in the Port District. They meet up with Ursala again. She explains that they found Alex floating in the water. He was so exhausted that he couldn’t even change forms. Ursala promises to take care of Alex and she gets a little uppity with Artie. Telling the wizardling, that Alex is with his own kind and not to worry. The group learns a bit more about Ursala. Most shape changers don’t have any protection under the Unseelie Accords. They aren’t part of any of the major supernatural factions. But with her as a Free Holding Lady, she make a home for them.
Artie gets called back to the Dean’s office. His mentor explains to him that the White Court Matron, Lydia Van Der Hausen, is willing to support the White Council as they had in the past. They just needed to do her a little favor, bring back her traitorous offspring (“mostly alive is good”). For some reason, she requested that Artie and Company handle this. (Note: She was a bit upset that Alex wasn’t around.) More tracking and little more surveillance and the Dude and Artie end up at an old Plantation House. They end a following a couple of White Court vampires who decided to quit waiting around and go out to the Boardwalk for a little snack.
They come up with an ingenious plan. They’ll use the Dude as bait to get the female White Court Vampire. To make things safer, Artie gives him more of the anti-mojo potion. The plan works perfectly. The Dude has the very amorous attentions of a White Court Vampire. She even agreed to go with him back into the alley. THEN. (The Dude has an Aspect “Wrong Place, Wrong Time). His girlfriend (Whisper) walks up and sees the display. She is not happy. The White Court Vampire invites her to join them in the alley. Whisper is now pissed. She storms out of the bar. Several light bulbs and various electronic devices get fried. They continue with their plan and ambush the vampire in the alley. They due a little fighting and a lot of haggling. The vampire agrees to give them the location of Caspar, if they agree to put in a good word with Lydia. They agree.
Caspar is hiding out at old refinery in the Brown Fields. It was much cut and dried. Artie and the Dude sneak up. Artie blasts Caspar into oblivion. The Dude beats the crap out of a couple of Caspar’s latest play things.
Here endeth the session.
