We just started our city for Kingmaker. Storm Lake. We haven’t gotten that far. We have a castle, some housing, started a road and some farm land. This part of Kingmaker is what everyone has been talking about. It’s a pretty abstract system. We’ve likened it playing Settlers of Cataan, Age of Empires or Civilization. We had the most fun assigning NPC’s to various political offices. The highlight was the originally nameless warrior worked his way from guard to Sergeant of the Guard to the Royal Spymaster. We’ll see how that works out. I think the kingdom building will work OK and it’s too early to tell if this will become more of bookkeeping chore. But enough of that stuff onto the good parts!
We had two shining moments in this last session. The first was thanks to our Cavalier. In case you don’t remember, he’s crazy (Don Quixote crazy not Normal Bates crazy). The half-orc sorcerer/oracle (me) and the fighter/cleric got into a disagreement on how exactly to deal with a particular encounter. I wanted to blast away while the fighter/cleric wanted to talk it out and do a little a side quest. We didn’t come to blows but initiative was rolled and the fighter/cleric ended up restraining the half-orc. This wasn’t an angry Player vs Player moment. It was just roleplaying and we were having fun. Things got really interesting when it got to the cavalier’s turn.
The player looked the DM in the eye and said, “Two of my friends are fighting. I’m not sure what to do so I’m rolling on the Confusion table.” That’s right he flipped open the book to the Confusion spell and rolled. And what did he get? He hit himself. We broke out laughing. We had this crazy mental image of two party members rolling around on the ground wrestling while the cavalier was hitting himself in the head with his sword pommel screaming, “You’re tearing us apart!”
Yeah, this is the group of “heroes” sent into the frontier to found a new kingdom.

LOL. I love that mental image.
You mentioned that there were a few more awesome RPing moments during the session. You going to summarize those as well? :)
