The year is almost over and it’s that time of year to reflect back on the neat stuff from over the past year. So here it is my own little list of the my favorite RPG’s for 2010.
Topping the list, of course, is the Dresden Files RPG. I am a little biased. I’m a big fan of both urban fantasy and Jim Butcher’s books. So the RPG should have been a no brainer but when the announcement was made years ago, I had some trepidations that come with the announcement of any licensed RPG. But once I got the finished product in my hand, I was really surprised. This most definitely one of my go to games and it’s given a new found fondness for the FATE System.
Second is Dungeonslayers. Yeah, I know it didn’t come out this year but I didn’t really discover it until this year and the 4th Edition of this neat little game has been just released in German and should be popping up soon in English. So why would I pick this game? Because, it’s neat and simple but mostly because this game grew from a little set of house rules into a game with a strong community following.
I have some honorable mentions too. It’s not these games are bad, it’s just that I haven’t the time to look at them that closely but I’ve listened to folks whose opinions I value. So Honorable Mentions go out to Fiasco, Blowback and Gamma World.
Thanks to all the designers for all their hard work. May 2011 give us some more great games.
