We had another session of Kingmaker on Friday. At least this time I didn’t run into any bugs. Maybe that’s a bad sign. I dunno.
This week we continued building our kingdom. Pretty much mundane stuff. Continued work on roads and built a smithy. Really the whole kingdom building thing is already starting to feel like we’re playing Warcraft (The original one not the fancy MMO.) I can see how eventually we are going to need a spreadsheet to run this thing.
We didn’t have any shining gems like we did in the previous sessions but it was still fun. One of the things we’re doing with this campaign is using Aspects and FATE points just like in, well, FATE. I’m happy to report that it is working well and saved of us from a couple of TPK’s this session. Even one or two opportunities to re-roll a d20 can save your bacon. But that’s not the neatest thing. Pretty much as I thought, the Aspects have added some real roleplaying meat to the game. We’re making choices and doing things that I don’t think would happen otherwise. Such as our Fighter/Cleric trying to talk to some Boggards. But like many things this almost ended in disaster since communication was mostly point and grunt since neither side had a language in common. Somehow the Boggards got the idea that we were giving them the Fighter/Cleric to eat. We managed to clear up the misunderstanding.
Other little things we learned. When a raging Barbarian werewolf crits with a great ax, really bad things can happen. Especially when you are only 3rd level. Also, fey are fickle and have very short attention spans.
Next session, we plan on heading off to a mysterious crypt. Chances are we’re going to tangle with some undead. This should prove to be interesting. Think I should probably have a back up character ready.
