Discussions start off with that questions a lot around the house. It’s one of the side effects of living with a non-geek.
We don’t have arguments about viewing choices nor is it a problem. It’s just interesting trying to explain to some one who isn’t a geek why any would intentionally watch a movie that they know is bad. Or why in the world you want to watch Stars Wars 27 times. How you think an awesome weekend would be a caffeine fueled Lord of the Rings marathon. I like horror movies, especially bad horror movies. I like off beat and indie movies. The bad ones are an interactive form entertainment. Trust me. A bad movie can be joke fodder for years. Catwoman, anyone?
I think one of the favorite household bits of slang is “Sword Porn”. This describes any B fantasy or martial arts of movie. As my lovely significant other put it, “It’s like a porn movie without any sex. Bad acting. No plot. Just people fighting.” Of course, my response is that I like it because it’s silly. Which is countered with it’s stupid. Then we crack open beers, sit back and watch a movie. And when one of her movies pops up on the good old Netflix cue or shows up on TV, I’ll offer my own opinion on it. To this day, I don’t know what she sees in the Madea movies.
There’s no changing each others tastes. We know that and we accept that. And that is what I want you take from this. Two people can have widely varying tastes and still respect and love each other and get along. We know that when we disagree about a movie it isn’t anything personal or that the other has gone off the deep end. It’s just who were are and these little things don’t mean crap in the big picture.

I have had to tone down my watching of cheesy slasher movies since moving in with my significant other. Luckily, she has managed to go a whole year and a half without putting on Romy And Michelle’s High School Reunion. We do pretty well, though, but you’re right about the title of your blog. I’ve lost count of how many viewing choices have been followed by that question…
